Or what if someone smoked pot from a plant growing among Oleander?
Could a person get sick or die from eating tomatoes from a plant among or near Oleander bushes?
Be careful. One never knows how cross-contamination could occur. Example: a gardener without garden gloves handling the oleander plant and then picking tomatoes could accidentally spread oleander sap on the tomatoes.
Aphids as the carriers of poison? Even oleander aphids? A possibility.
A sick oleander plant my leak sap too on the tomatoes still on the vine.
Cross-poisoning may not be well known concerning this plant because no one has written about it yet.
Smoking pot grown by oleander bushes? Hopefully no dried oleander leaves got mixed in with the pot. Pot can be contaminated by other chemicals. Why not those toxins from the oleander plant? (Dried oleander parts are poisoness and smoke from burning oleander is also poisoness.)
A website: http://www.oleander.org/toxic.html
Your question reminded me of a dear friend who grew oleander plants very successfully.
Reply:you totally lost me
Reply:that depends entirely upon which planet you reside on! In some instances the oleander might enhance the pots great effect. Perhaps some experimentation along these lines might lead to great discoveries.Start w/ tomatoes first.
Reply:I can not find one reference from indirect oleander poisoning. The toxins are in only the leaf. I do not see any way it could contaminate near by plants through the soil.
Reply:I think you have already been hitting the wacky weed already.

The Gutenberg Project has tens of thousands of books available for free download in pdf

If, by chance, there is something you can't find there... then one of my English professors gave me this site, which is basically the same thing and was put together by the University of Pennsylvania:

Which name do you like best (for a boy), Oleander? Leander? or Lysander?
oleander is a poisonous flower mix between rose and laurel (modern lit)
leander is lion man in greek (mythology)
and lysander is freed man in greek (shakespeare)
Which name do you like best (for a boy), Oleander? Leander? or Lysander?
lysander definitely... B/C if I saw it written down and had no idea that it came from a midsummer nights dream i would still be able to pronounce it semi-correctly...
Oleander sounds like an old ladies name...and i can see nicknames that could come from Leander..like Leannie or lee
Reply:Of the three, leander is the best. Of course, all three are gonna get him teased from kindergarten through high school, but if you have to problem with that, then go for it.
Reply:I like Lysander the best.
Oleander I dislike.
Reply:I think Leander is a reasonable choice.
Flower names, even poisonous flowers, are best reserved for girls. The possible exceptions are trees - Bay and Linden would make great boy names.
Lysander, again, feels feminine - probably because the logical short form, Lys, is undeniably a girl's name.
You might consider Evander. It has a lot of flair, but is undeniably masculine, and shortens to Ev, Evan, Van ... all quite nice choices for a son.
Reply:Lysander or Leander. definately dont name him after a poisonous flower!
Reply:Ugh, please spare the poor child.
Those names are OK for soap operas or a raunchy romance novel, but definitely NOT for a little boy.
ADD:
Then you're both delirious, selfish parents.
Think of what this poor kid's going to go through when he's picked on by his classmates. When he comes running to you crying after being called ridiculous nicknames, what are you and the wife gonna do? Hug him and say, "Oh it's ok Oleander....WE like the name!"
An IQ test should be required before reproducing.

Reply:I like them all! Leander is my favorite.
Have you thought of Evander? Or just Anders?
Reply:Lysander, because Oleander reminds me of Harry Potter, as does Leander just because it is close.
Reply:Oleander

Reply:I like Leander best. Good for you for choosing an unusual name.
Reply:Well if you really want to go for an untraditional name like that, I like Lysander. But trust me when I say, having a very old-fashioned name is not fun on the child. Especially this day and age where children are picked for every little thing.
Reply:I think names are important for a child and your selection is quite unusual I don't think anyone can comment as your the mother and will ultimately decide.
But please remember this will be the child's name for the rest of it's life and other children can be cruel.
Look at all these celebrities that get ridiculed for calling there children silly names just a little warning

My dog isn't eating. Could it be and oleander leaf?
He hasn't been eating and he looks very weak. Also, his eyes are very droopy. 'm taking him to the vet very soon. But, what are the side effects for a dog eating an oleander leaf?
My dog isn't eating. Could it be and oleander leaf?
Oleander - A common ornamental evergreen shrub in Los Angeles County can kill animals that eat it. The plant contains a poison that acts on the heart. Do not feed Oleander trimmings to animals. Do not allow horses and livestock access to Oleander plants.
Found this info on this website. Get your dog to VET ASAP!!

Reply:If you suspect poison at all (and oleander is poisonous), don't wait, get to a vet now, even if it is an emergency vet clinic or an after-hours visit. The longer you wait, the less likely your dog is to survive if it is poison.
Reply:Dog needs to be at the vet NOW.
Here is a page for information.:

For those who have read and seen White Oleander?
I'm not being lazy but I cannot finish reading White Oleander. It is FAR too depressing and I have to compare/contrast the film and book. The film is better because there aren't any detailed sexual episodes between Astrid and anyone else but in the book there is. It angers/saddens me that this has to happen to a 14 year old girl. I myself have had similar things happen to me and I do not want to finish this or else I will kill myself, seriously. So if anyone has read the book and watched the movie, some information will be helpful. Thanks
For those who have read and seen White Oleander?
The novel is set in modern California. When the story begins, Astrid is twelve years old. She and her beloved mother, poet Ingrid Magnussen, live a sheltered life together, with little male influence. Ingrid was left by her husband Klaus Anders before Astrid was old enough to remember; Astrid has never seen or spoken to her father since then. Astrid, like her mother, is beautiful. She relies solely on Ingrid and has trouble fitting in at school. From the beginning, Ingrid appears to be a caring mother, but the reader also sees that she is self-centered and somewhat cold-hearted. Above all, Ingrid lives by the maxim "Never let a man stay the night."
However, Ingrid breaks her rules with a man named Barry Kolker who was initially not her type. Astrid watches as Ingrid and Barry become more and more involved, then she witnesses her mother's heartbreak when he is revealed to be a horrendous womanizer. Ingrid poisons Barry with the juice of a white oleander. She is charged with his murder and sentenced to over thirty years in prison. She promises her daughter that she will come back, but this doesn't happen. So begins Astrid's journey through a series of foster homes, where she encounters a variety of worlds and people.
The first foster family is that of Starr, a former stripper and drug addict. She has two children of her own, Carolee and Davey, as well as a boyfriend, Ray. Despite a culture that is rough around the edges, Starr could be labeled a "trailer park" Christian. This home, which seems different although suitable at first, is the first of many failures. Despite being fifteen years old, Astrid has an affair with Starr's fifty year old boyfriend, Ray. Suspicious and needy, Starr converts back to her old habit of heavy drinking. One night, after loudly accusing Ray of having sex with the foster child, Starr turns a gun on Astrid.
Although suffering some broken bones and stitches from the shot, Astrid is not fatally injured, and after recovery, her next home is with the Turlocks. Ed and Marvel are an average, cold couple, the parents of two young children. In their home, Astrid becomes an unpaid babysitter. While taking the kids to the park, she begins to smoke marijuana (likely a reminder of Ray) which she bought by trading sexual favors with local teenagers. As an escape from Marvel's wrath, Astrid befriends the Turlocks' next-door neighbour, a beautiful African-American woman named Olivia Johnstone. Astrid admires Olivia's beauty and her hedonistic lifestyle, although she knows that Olivia, as a woman of complete independence, will never think the same of her. Olivia is a prostitute by profession and is hated by the Turlock family. One night Astrid snuck out of the Turlock house to see if Olivia was home but was attacked by dogs on the way there, leaving her with scars. Astrid's association with Olivia leads to her being expelled from the Turlock household after accidently falling asleep at Olivia's house one night.
Next, Astrid ends up in the home of a Hispanic woman named Amelia Ramos. Amelia is an interior designer, originally from Argentina, and lives in Hollywood, with a huge, elegant house. Amelia has a son, but unfortunately, he has AIDS and the girls don't see him much. The other foster girls in the house are all Latino and are racist towards Astrid. Besides being a white girl, she has pale skin, light blue eyes, and white-blonde hair. However, all the girls in Amelia's household are treated the same. They are fed dinner, but for the most part, Amelia keeps a lock on her fridge, so they starve in the mornings. She even recommends a friend to take in girls, because they are "easy money." Astrid starves to the point that she stops menstruating. She resorts to eating unfinished lunches from the garbage at school. Finally, with the help of a social worker, she is removed from Amelia's household.
With the next family, Astrid's fate seems to change. She becomes the companion of a lonely young woman, Claire Richards, an actress with a workaholic husband, Ron. Loving but weak, Claire does everything she can to ensure Astrid's comfort. For once, Astrid has a regular schedule, is doing well in school and pursuing the art she loves. All the while, Astrid continues corresponding with her mother in prison, but Astrid becomes increasingly bitter towards Ingrid. She settles easily into life with Claire. With Ron, however, this fate takes a turn that will ultimately be tragic. Ron is, perhaps, a well-meaning man, but he is as neglectful of Claire as she is obsessive over him. Claire suspects that Ron is having an affair, because of his frequent trips which he claims are for business purposes. Astrid watches their fights grow worse and as Ron makes constant trips away from home. Claire falls deeper and deeper into depression. Claire also communicates with Ingrid, whom she admires greatly, and Ingrid convinces her that Ron is indeed having an affair, although she hardly knows Claire or Ron. Later, Ingrid tells Astrid that deceiving Claire is too easy, "like drowning kittens." At Christmas, Claire commits suicide by overdosing and taking pills. This leaves Astrid stuck with Ron. Ron lets Astrid stay, but Astrid declines and decides she'd be better off in an orphanage of sorts, MacLaren Children's Center (known as Mac), than with him.
Astrid meets a boy named Paul in the children's center, and when they become friends (much to Astrid's opposition at first, due to the fact that she wanted to be reclusive) people start speculating that they are a couple and mocking them.
Astrid's final home is with Russian immigrant Rena Grushenka. She intentionally chose Rena over better prospective foster parents because she is devastated by Claire's death, and does not want to become part of a "normal" nuclear family. At Rena's, she befriends two other girls, the punker Niki, and pregnant, needy Yvonne. As a reflection of her first foster home, she ends up sleeping with Rena's boyfriend, Sergei (although Astrid is in her last year of high school by this point).
Meanwhile, Ingrid has begun to build up a following of fans and admirers from prison, who all believe she is innocent. Ingrid and her lawyer begin to build up a case to get Ingrid released from prison. However, their case depends on Astrid -- if she testifies that Ingrid did not murder Barry, Ingrid would probably get out, but if she testifies the truth, Ingrid could not win her case. Astrid realizes that she is in a position of power over her mother, and tells her that unless she answers some of her questions, she will testify against her.
Astrid learns a lot about her past, including an incident when, as a very small child, she was left in the care of a neighbor named Annie for a year, while her mother abandoned her to live in Ensenada. She also learns about her father, Klaus Anders. She receives word from her mother's admirers and advocates, who are convinced that Ingrid is innocent. Knowing her mother is guilty, Astrid refuses to testify at first, but is soon convinced to lie to help free Ingrid. However, when the case is brought up, Ingrid tells the court that she refuses to let Astrid speak on her behalf, even if she must carry out her long sentence. From this, Astrid knows that her mother is not all selfishness, and does bear true love for her.
In the end, Astrid moves to Berlin with her boyfriend, Paul, who has now become a comic book artist like he had dreamed of in the foster home. She continues to create art and even visits her birth father Klaus. One night Paul returns with a newspaper stating that Ingrid was released from prison after winning her new trial. Astrid struggles internally with the power that her mother still has over her and secretly dreams of going back to California. Life is not perfect, and Astrid has been very much damaged, but she has overcome many trials.

When is the best time to cut back oleander?
Live in Nevada. The oleander bushes have gone crazy. Can't even see out the windows.
When is the best time to cut back oleander?
Hi:
Oleander can be cut back in the fall. Depending on where in Nevada you live and how cold your winters are. Nevada has climate zones of six, seven and eight.
Always cut your branches at an angle. If you cut straight across you can damage the Oleander. Oleander is similar to a Hibiscus shrub, and should be pruned back before the first frost.
Good luck to you and if you have any more questions, please feel free to contact me at my website. I will link you to my site map as well the page on properly pruning shrubs. The site map page has everything that is on the website. Hope this has helped you some. Have a great day!

Reply:Believe it or not Oleander is one of those bushes/trees that can be trimmed almost anytime of the year. They are so hardy and hard to kill. Most plants the ebst time to trim is in the late spring or early Fall, but this type can be trimmed almost anytime except for the dead of winter...
Reply:Oleanders are evergreen shrubs that can be pruned basically anytime of the year. The best time is when they are not in bloom; so now is one of those times. Cut back to desired height and let the spring flush it with new growth and produce the desired look. In Nevada wait till March or April to feed with a good balanced plant food that is high in phosphorous which produces blooms and fruit on plants. Follow manufacturers recommendation.

Does anyone have information about the flower, "white oleander"?
I am taking a comprehensive exam for my master's degree in counseling and I needed to watch the movie, "White Oleander". I would like some information about the flower because the mother used the flower to kill her boyfriend.
If anyone has seen the movie and would like to share information on that, you may do so as well.
Does anyone have information about the flower, "white oleander"?
Oleander is a southern flower-- lots planted in beach areas because they are pretty and will screen. However, the nice straight branches are favored by the uninformed-- to cook hot dogs on-- and yes-- they ARE poison-- or at least the sap is!-- I don't know the symptoms but a google medical search might be enlightening.
good luck--
PS After the comps-- don't expect bells to ring or buzzers to buzz-- I was certainly disappointed!! Not a HOORAY! in the bunch-- just a -- OK-- you may go. I had to ask if I'd passed!
Reply:Oleander (Nerium oleander) is in the family apocynaceae. The flowers can be white, various shades of pink, or reddish in color and are poisonous. The entire plant is poisonous. It exudes a white, milky sap which can cause skin irritation and can make you really sick or can lead to death if ingested.
The toxin is a Cardenolide Glycoside, which affects functions of the heart. It interferes with the sodium/potassium pump. It can be fatal. I read on the NCBI website that it took 3 hours to kill a dog that was injected with 40mg of oleander extract.

If anyone has seen the movie and would like to share information on that, you may do so as well.
Does anyone have information about the flower, "white oleander"?

The Rescue by Nicholas Sparks or White Oleander by Janet Fitch?
I'm looking to purchase a gift for a dear friend. She's about 20 years old and not really in to reading. She loved the movie The Notebook, and that's why I'm thinking Nicholas Sparks. But lately I've been hearing thoughts that I should purchase White Oleander by Janet Fitch for her. I want her to get into reading, and be able to cuddle up with a book she's going to lose herself in. I'm a 21 year old male buying this book for someone very special in my life. The other book can always come at a later date, but since this is my first purchase for her in this category I want it to be special and something she will remember. Which book do you think is best suited for the occasion, and why? Thank you

Reply:You could go with White Oleander because it is a well-liked book and she will certainly enjoy it. However, keep in mind that it is somewhat of an easy read. May I suggest Stardust by Neil Gaiman, it is an incredible book and he is an amazing writer that has the capability of making her love to read. Here is a short summary:
Stardust is the story of a young lad, Tristan, who falls in love and promises his object of affection (Victoria) that he will find her that falling star which they both saw fall nearby, and believing that he will actually win her heart when he brings her back that star. In order to do this, Tristan goes to the guarded gate through to the 'Faerie Land', on the other side of the wall of the town.
Reply:I would go with White Oleander too. As mentioned above it's a somewhat easy read, which would make it good for someone who doesn't read much. It's got a magical quality to it, for me anyway. It's one of those that you can just lose yourself in.
Sparks I've tried a few times and could never get into.
But the other nods to Memoirs of a Geisha and Neil Gaiman are good too. I also adore Virgin Suicides and Slammerkin.

Reply:Okay, I'll be totally honest here....Nicholas Sparks is a little too cheesy for my reading tastes(although many love his stuff). I did read and enjoy White Oleander. Very good, but depressing, book. If this is a present for someone you're interested in romantically, I'd probably go with the mushier Sparks.
Reply:I have not read the Nicholas Sparks book however I have heard rave reviews from numerous friends of mine (including some who arent what you would call avid readers). This book might be better for someone who doesnt read all the time as I hear it is an easier read (easier story to get into, good romantic book, etc)
I personally would recommend White Oleander though. I read the book and loved it. I think it tells a very interesting story and what i like most about the book is the writing seemed almost poetic to me. The way certain settings, characters and emotions were described was really beautiful to me and captured things that i think a lot of narratives just don't. (also i don't know if youre aware but this book was turned into a movie also not too long ago)
It is also a very unique story about a difficult relationship between a mother and daughter and a young woman trying to find herself desptie difficult and sometimes abusive situations. If that is the kind of story the person you are shopping for can relate to...it may abe a better and more inspiring choice.
Another thing to consider is if you are trying to encourage her to take up reading which book will open more doors for future reading. Nicholas Sparks has a ton of books most of which (from what I undenderstand) have similar writing stylye, theme and plots. Also there is a sequal to the Notebook that your friend might really like especailly if she liked the movie then the book.
As for the other author I know she just came out with another book that has recieved some critical praise but I havent read it or know anyone who has yet so I don't know enough to recommend it.
Good luck getting your friend into reading...it can be a difficult task but once they do its great fun to have another person you can share reading lists with and talk the books over with. Hope this was helpful

i recommend it to anyone that asks me for a good book.
as for nicholas sparks...well, i haven't been able to get into his books. i loved the notebok, the movie, however, i tried reading the notebook and the wedding and i just couldn't finish them.
white oleander is a phenomenal book, however, it's not romantic and flowery. if you want a book that is romantic and flowery and something that will still knock her socks off, then get her "memiors of a geisha". the movie could never do it justice and i am still dumbfounded that it was written by a man. of course, it was based on what was told to him by an aged geisha, however, he really portrayed a woman's spirit.
based on what you stated in your question and details i would get her "memoirs of a geisha". it picks up quickly from page one (if i remember correctly), and it is romantic yet exciting and powerful.
take care!

Do I cut back my snow burned oleander?
I have a couple of oleander bushes that got badly snow burned during this past winters crazy storms. They are still green at the bases with new growth but the tips are completely dead. My question is is do I trim the bushes all the way back or just the tips or just leave it alone. I live in zone 8
Do I cut back my snow burned oleander?
You will find the stems are damaged as well as the leaves. Oleanders are very tough, in my area people regularly chop the top half the bush away to encourage lush bushes.
The dead bits won't recover. Just cut all the dead looking stems back to where they are green and healthy, don't worry if the leaves on the green stems are dead. If the prune is quite severe don't worry it will recover. Good luck
Reply:Cut back the dead.
Reply:once they are absolutely brown and dead, yes, trim them down. Look at the stems you trim off, if they are hollow looking, trim them down farther, until they look green.

How can I kill some very aggressive OLEANDER bushes?
The oleander plants are very tall and thick. They have been cut back many times, hoping they would stay short for a while, but they grow like weeds, which I think they are, and they need to be permanently stunted or killed. Thanks for your help.
How can I kill some very aggressive OLEANDER bushes?
The oleander needs to be dug out. Remove the crown of roots and that should prevent it from coming back. If this is a irrigated area you may still may see some sprouts form time to time but you can just chop those out.
If the stumps have some fresh juicy new growth, you can easily kill them with a shot of glyphosphate herbicide (i.e. Round-Up). If the growth on the stumps is old and mature leaves, then soak the stumps deeply and wait another week or two until you have some lush fresh growth - the herbicide does not work well on old leaves, only on fresh new leaves. Add 1 tablespoon of liquid dish soap, plus 2 tablespoons of a fine granular plant fertilizer to each 1 gallon of glyphosphate solution. The soap will help
the herbicide to stick better on the leaves, rather than running off onto the ground where it will do no good - the fertilizer will stimulate the leaves and stems to take up more of the herbicide. You may need to hit it twice - first time, then wait until those stems brown and die.
Be aware that all parts of the oleander are HIGHLY POISONOUS. DO NOT BURN the debris from a dug-up oleander as the smoke from burning the limbs will make you sick %26amp; may even be fatal. Make sure you wear gloves when handling any part of this plant.
Reply:Sprinkle table salt on them.
Reply:Cut them as short as you can, then sprinkle salt on the stump.
Reply:Cutting them back and pouring brush killer on them will do it.
Just remember Oleanders are highly poisonous.
Reply:I don't think salt will do much for Oleander... Their native habitat is sand dunes and coastal areas.
also every part of Oleander is extremely poisonous.the leaves, even the dead dried leaves., the stems, roots, and flowers...do not get any of the juice in your eyes or mouth.
(like you can die poisonous)
Please keep small children away.
The roots have to be dug out. Can you rent a small machine? or a company to do it?

What can I plant to replace oleander?
I have many oleander plants that provide privacy in my backyard, however they are poisonous (I have a curious 2-year-old) and they are growing a bit out of control. I'd like to have them all pulled, but then replaced with something. I'd like something that is low maintenance and tall enough to provide privacy...any suggestions?

Crape Myrtles can be kept as bushes or let them grow into trees.

Reply:Hi, Try Dave's Garden. You can ask questions about plants in your zone and have locals answer you.. Plus read about their experiences with varying plants also there's pictures of different plants by common name and latin names. Good luck folks are really nice there I love it.

Has anyone seen the movie, "White Oleander"?
I have a comp exam for my master's and it deals with the movie, White Oleander. I need to counsel the daughter. Any suggestions on counseling themes or theories to use? Any advice at all would be totally appreciated!!

why not rent the movie and watch it.
Reply:We are all responsible for our own destiny, despite traumatic childhood experiences. While we can never really "get over" this abuse, we must accept the scars of the past and learn to make the most out of our lives.
In counseling her, I would avoid any methods that make her out to be a victim of her circumstances. She is now old enough to take care of herself and has a responsibility to fulfill her purpose. Activities where she can put others first (esp. people in worse circumstances, charities, etc.) will do best to heal any residual wounds.

Basically everyone in this girls life uses her some way for their own benefit.
She seems to deal with it by releasing her anger thru her art.
Not sure how one would consel someone who had been used by so many people and by her own Mom.

Can a person posioned by oleander flower be saved?
Can the effects of it be reversed while theyre sick/ I know people who get bit by spiders like black widows can be given a drug to take the poison out of their system. I watched "white oleander" the other day and it made me think of this question, just curious.

Has anyone who cut the oleander back feel exhausted after ward?
The reason I ask, is that I just spend about an hour cutting back my oleander trees and something got in my eye. I quickly washed it out and took a shower. However, after cleaning up, I sat down and felt extremely exhausted like I couldn't even get up. Now, I feel a bit better and called a doctor, he said that you have to eat it and lots of it inorder for it to affect you in the way it says on the internet. Many gardeners are exposed to it and they aren't affected.
Has anyone who cut the oleander back feel exhausted after ward?
You may be coming down with something, which would account for the fatigue. There are a lot of illnesses going around. I clipped shrubs today for more than an hour and also felt exhausted, but I'm out of shape. Anyhow, I wouldn't worry about the oleander. Hope you feel better soon.

i liked that book, too.
you can try her other book: Paint it Black, but I don't think it's as good as White Oleander.
Other books similar to White Oleander (on the psychology/emotional level--not plot) are:

Can you transplant an Oleander?
I have a white oleander that I'd like to transplant. It never bloomed this year, most likely because of lack of sun. Can they be transplanted safely? It is about three feet high. Is it best to transplant now, or wait until the spring?
Can you transplant an Oleander?
If you do get frost in your area, it is best to wait until that threat is gone. When you do trasnplant it make sure you prune the top. It will recover better. Because one can never get all the roots, one needs to compensate for the "root prune" by pruning the top too. If you don't, the top growth will probably wilt and stress the plant even more.
Good luck :-)

because of a recent infestation of oleander caterpillars. It is distressing, quite distressing, the hedge isn't even in my yard. They weren't here last year but have arrived this year and don't seem eager to go away. I don't like to kill anything. Anybody else have this problem?
I am watching an oleander die?
I wouldn't worry. I don't think anything can kill an oleander. They are toxic to mammals. Didn't know they had any worm pests.
Trucks run into them and light them on fire in the middle of the freeways here in California. Doesn't even phase them. They just grow out again next year.

I hope it will ease the distress.
Reply:talk to the local nursery expert. maybe there will be an organic way to help the plant. it may mean removing the bugs individually.

What does this (White Oleander) quote mean to YOU?
"Love humiliates. Hatred cradles; soothing." - 'White Oleander'
What does this (White Oleander) quote mean to YOU?
It means that love hurts and shutting yourself off to relationships can give you a false sense of comfort.
Reply:Good movie, too!
gentle poison
Reply:It reminds me of Darth Vader trying to seduce Luke to the dark side.
Reply:this book is one of my favorites...i read it at the perfect time. i was trying very hard to get over the person, who, at that time. was the love of my life.
to me it means that sometimes because of love you do silly things and because of love you leave yourself open for hurt, which can feel humiliating if it's not returned by the other person.
most of us have been that sniveling, groveling "why don't you love me anymore??" person...it's hard to get over that when the other person answers with a big, fat "leave me alone".
the second part of the quote, to me, means that if you turn your love for someone else or people in general into hatred, it makes you feel better...so you think. you get a coating on top of your heart that makes you feel like no one can ever get in again and that helps soothe the pain. it keeps you going and it helps you forget about the hurt and humiliation.
it makes you feel strong and invincible. since i've been to both places, i can say that i prefer humiliating love to that comforting hatred any day.
gosh, i'm going to have to read that book again...it was soooo good...thanks for reminding me about it!
Reply:I really wouldn't worry about it. I think the answer above (about relationships) is very good.
Reply:Love makes you vulnerable. Hate emboldens you.

Where can I find Oleander Trees?
I live in Northern California (Acampo) to be exact and I want to buy some Oleander Trees. Can anyone tell me where I might find them?
Where can I find Oleander Trees?
a plant/tree nursery would have them
Reply:They are very poisonous but so are a lot of garden plants just be aware as horses have died when given grass cuttings that contained leaves but they are pretty ,smell sweet and can be trained to bush form or small tree. I grow some in pots also have one growing in yard they are tough as I am not a great gardener and they do not require much water. Mine have self seeded from the neighbourhood some councils also grow them as pavement trees or in median strips between roads. I think they are easy to propagate by just cutting a piece and planting but quicker solution is a nursery ring around to find them, size and price so good luck
Reply:TyTy Nursery has them at a reasonable price. you can oder them online at www.tytyga.com...they start from just $9.95. Enjoy!
Reply:I worked in a plant nursery and was cautioned about Oleander and wore gloves whenever handling. all parts are poison.
Reply:Word of caution. There were oleander trees in Hawaii and I was told that they are poisonous to pets %26amp; humans. So I would check with your nursery before you buy to see if that applies to all varieties or just to some, especially if you have pets or small children. As to where to get them in your area your local nurseries should be of help with that.

I bought a purple oleander and would like to know how to care for it?
It is three feet tall in a large pot. Can it stay in the pot? How do I feed it? Would it do better in the ground?
Thank you for any help. This is my first Oleander.

Can a person poisoned by the oleander flower be saved?
Could someone get medical treatment and live if they've been exposed to the oleander flower through ingestion or skin? I really wnat 2 know, I watched the movie white oleander on t.v. and it made me think of this!
Can a person poisoned by the oleander flower be saved?
Yes but Oleander is one of the most poisonous plants known to man and contains numerous toxic compounds, many of which can be deadly to people, especially young children. The toxicity of Oleander is considered extremely high and it has been reported that in some cases only a small amount had lethal or near lethal effects. Reactions to this plant are as follows: Ingestion can cause both gastrointestinal and cardiac effects. The gastrointestinal effects can consist of nausea and vomiting, excess salivation, abdominal pain, diarrhea that may or may not contain blood, and especially in horses, colic. Cardiac reactions consist of irregular heart rate, sometimes characterized by a racing heart at first that then slows to below normal further along in the reaction. The heart may also beat erratically with no sign of a specific rhythm. Extremities may become pale and cold due to poor or irregular circulation. Reactions to poisonings from this plant can also affect the central nervous system. These symptoms can include drowsiness, tremors or shaking of the muscles, seizures, collapse, and even coma that can lead to death. Oleander sap can cause skin irritations, severe eye inflammation and irritation, and allergy reactions characterized by dermatitis.
Poisoning and reactions to Oleander plants are evident quickly, requiring immediate medical care in suspected or known poisonings of both humans and animals. Induced vomiting and gastric lavage are protective measures to reduce absorption of the toxic compounds. Charcoal may also be administered to help absorb any remaining toxins. Further medical attention may be required and will depend on the severity of the poisoning and symptoms.

How do you get rid of Oleander plants?
We moved into a house that has some out of control oleander plants. We also have a dog so I'm worried about the fact that they're poisonous. I've tried cutting them and digging the root out but I guess I did it wrong because they all came back. Does anyone know the best way to get rid of oleander plants?
How do you get rid of Oleander plants?
Your dog won't eat them.. Don't get rid of them, they are beautiful. Your dog will be fine, I promise
Reply:Oleander grows very tall, then leans over. It also drops many flowers everywhere. My one neighbor had it, and it filled my yard with flower debris. My other neighbor has it, won't cut it, and it now blocks my ocean view completely. I don't like it at all. Report It
Reply:Oleander is listed on the ASPCA website for posionus plants. I'm trying to get rid of my oleander for the same reason. We cut ours down and it's growing back! If you've figured out a way to get rid of your plant, please let me know! Report It

Laura mercier creme oleander blush, what colour can i define my cheeks with this colour?
I really like the Laura Mercier Oleander Creme Blush, however i like to define my cheekbones by putting a darker shade (usually bronze) under my cheeks to highlight my cheeks.
however this is a light creme colour, i dont want it to look stupid with a too dark of a shade, anyone got any ideas?
Many thanks :)
Laura mercier creme oleander blush, what colour can i define my cheeks with this colour?
you could try just some simple bronzing powder. lancome star bronzer is really good or if you want to stick to laura mercier you could try her bronzing duo.
to apply, suck in your cheeks and look into a mirror to better see your cheekbones. using a large makeup brush, apply a light bronzer powder in a sweeping motion directly below your cheekbones. start at the apples of your cheeks, near your nose, and lightly sweep the powder up toward your temples and hairline, creating an illusion of a shadow below your cheekbones.
smile into the mirror to further define the apples of your cheeks and apply a light pink or rose blush in a circular motion to help them stand out against the bronzer. add a light shimmer for an extra glow. Apply a cream highlighting shimmer with your fingers or makeup sponge or a powder with a blush brush. put this only on the apples of your cheeks and be careful not to add too much--a little goes a long way here.
hope this helps

Reply:you can use the foundation base as your masterpiece and have a second tone under your cheek from another shade of foundation. makes it look a bit more natural... don't overdo bronzer... and never forget to always puff it with loose powder after

Symbolism from White Oleander (the book!): a symbol for beauty?
i have to do a project regarding recurring images/ideas thru out White Oleander..

the symbol for beauty doesnt have to be something directly from the book...but i am having a hard time thinking of a symbol for beauty..

Reply:The white oleander itself represents the deadliest beauty; it is a beautiful flower, yet its poison can kill.
Reply:Okay, I haven't read the book. But here's a trick I know regarding beauty as a symbolism, it might help you.
Pick any woman character in the book. That character definitely symbolizes beauty to some aspect. If the character is a villain then it is the negative effect of beauty and if the character is a nice one then its angelic beauty. And then pick some quotes related to the character and try to prove your point by BSing.
Start like.....in the book ____ , _____ was a very strong character. She herself symbolizes the constructive / destructive side of beauty.

A bush similar to the Oleander?
We recently just bought this house and the front yard is huge! So on one side of our yard it's open with a long wooden fence seperating it from our yard and the back of our neighbors yard (corner house)! So we thought it would look really pretty to plant oleanders sorted out along the fence to hide it! Well since we just had a baby and we do have a dog, we didn't think it would be a good idea since the oleander is extremely toxic! so what's the next best bush close to that or similar looking?

A bush similar to the Oleander?
If you want to block the view of your neighbors, you want evergreen shrubs. Two very nice shrubs for your needs are: Lemon bottlebrush and pineapple guava. The bottlebrush have pretty red flowers which look like bottle brushes, and attract lots of honey bees. The guava have edible fruit, pretty sage-green leaves and red and white flowers. The bottlebrush become nicely compact and thickly bushy if you prune off the old flower heads each year. The guava are best left alone I think. That has been my experience. They have a nice shape just as is. If you have the vertical space, you can add interest by planting Italian cypress every other one, and alternate a couple different types of shrubs between the cypresses.

Help! My oleander tree is turning brown. I live in Atlanta. Is it zoned for this area?
I own a oleander tree that has started to turn brown due to the cold weather. I bought it nearby, but I'm not sure that it's zoned for this area. I'm not sure why they would sell it here if it isn't. Any advice on what to do about it turning brown, or is it doomed?
Thanks!
Help! My oleander tree is turning brown. I live in Atlanta. Is it zoned for this area?
If you bought it locally they usually sell variety's that will grow in your area. Can you phone the nursery that you bought it from and inquire about it's care. You live in an 8 zone and most are suppose to be in a 9-10 zone. I would try digging the tree up if it is still alive and put it inside in a pot for the winter. Lots of people have them in Canada but they are a large house plant during the winter and only put out in the spring.
Reply:It's probably had the top frosted off. I live in Australia and we get down to 20 deg f. The top frosts and if the plant is a reasonable size you just prune off the frost damage and they shoot away again. They are pretty tough but it can get too cold for them.
Reply:i have 5 in my yard in seneca sc, (zone 7) they get stressed sometimes but usually come back...
Reply:Sorry, but oleanders are desert plants, and will die if they get too much water. I live where it never gets below 20F, and it is very arid. (southern CA)
If it is frost damage, you can hack it back. I would wait until after the last frost. People here cut theirs back to the ground, with about 10 inches left on the stems. They come back like gangbusters.
Reply:I have had 20 foot tall oleanders in Arizona, and the desert can get very cold, particularly 40 years ago, when we had snow in several years. No matter how cold it got I don't recall that they ever noticed.
They will need a lot less water in the winter, and even in the desert we did not water them (though they were near enough to the grass to gotten some water from there) so you might make sure you are not over watering them.
They grow fairly easily from a stick stuck in the ground so even doomed is not so doomed.
Reply:too far north. just have to wait and see in the spring. they abound in fla. where the buckeyes will stomp the gators.
Thanks!

I need help! Who sings the song "Oleander"?
I found this song called "Oleander". It goes:
"Oleander, Oleander, will you bloom again next spring . . ."
I think the version I found Sarah Harmer is singing, but does anyone know if she is the original artist and if not who is? I would also like to find the lyrics somewhere. Thanks!!
I need help! Who sings the song "Oleander"?
Artist: Sarah Harmer
Song: Oleander
Album: I'm A Mountain
[Buy "I'm A Mountain" CD]
Oleander, Oleander
Will you bloom again this spring?
I adored you
Then I ignored you
And now to me you're everything
And those white blossoms that you gave freely
Are now just twinkles in your eye
Oh behold her
Oleander grows on the inside
She will forgive me
For I bring water
A sunny window to sit by
Oleander, I understand her
She's just waiting for the time
To say it's all right
Another season has brought us another chance
We're together in this hot weather to dance
Oleander, I think you're better
I think you made it through another winter.
Nothing has ended
It's all been mended
It's the way that it should be
You're coming back
You're coming back
It was so lonely here just me
This time no promises of what's to come
We'll just live it for the day
Oleander I see you stand there and I know you'll be ok
Oleander I think you're better
I think you made it through another winter

I’m a Mountain took shape during a series of performances held by Harmer and her band along the Escarpment’s Bruce Trail, and it shows: “If they blow a hole in my backyard,” she sings on “Escarpment Blues,” “everyone is gonna run away.” Harmer, a veteran of alt-country’s little-known Weeping Tile, nabbed a Juno Award for Adult Alternative Album of the Year with her previous album, 2004’s darker, atmospheric All of Our Names. I’m a Mountain travels a decidedly dustier path than that record: Out are the drums, synths, and ambient guitars; in are the banjos, mandolins, and fiddles. The disc’s 11 tracks are, not surprisingly, all mountain songs. On both the sprightly “The Phoenix” and the sleepier “Oleander,” Harmer balances her eye for nature with a talent for avoiding sounding like a bumper sticker: “And those white blossoms that you gave freely/Are now just twinkles in your eye,” she sings sweetly to a neglected house plant on the latter. Less appealing is the French-language lullaby “Salamandre,” whose lyrics (by adult-contemp compatriot Kate Fenner) are about as subtle as an ode to a friendly lizard, a secret map, and a golden tree can be. A cover of Dolly Parton’s “Will He Be Waiting for Me”—a parable of arable land that elides the distinctions between heavenly and earthly lovin’—nicely showcases Harmer’s affection not just for the land but also for the people on it. Ditto for “Goin’ Out,” the title track, and “I Am Aglow,” on which those same folks are dyin’, survivin’, or just tryin’ to figure out what the hell they’re doin’. It was Parton’s own career-reviving return to bluegrass, begun with 1999’s The Grass Is Blue, that prompted her to quip, “you gotta get rich in order to sing like you’re poor again.” Harmer may not boast Parton’s pocketbook—or even her famous topography—but on I’m a Mountain, she proves she’s capable of some notable peaks of her own.
"Oleander, Oleander, will you bloom again next spring . . ."
I think the version I found Sarah Harmer is singing, but does anyone know if she is the original artist and if not who is? I would also like to find the lyrics somewhere. Thanks!!
I need help! Who sings the song "Oleander"?
Artist: Sarah Harmer
Song: Oleander
Album: I'm A Mountain
[Buy "I'm A Mountain" CD]
Oleander, Oleander
Will you bloom again this spring?
I adored you
Then I ignored you
And now to me you're everything
And those white blossoms that you gave freely
Are now just twinkles in your eye
Oh behold her
Oleander grows on the inside
She will forgive me
For I bring water
A sunny window to sit by
Oleander, I understand her
She's just waiting for the time
To say it's all right
Another season has brought us another chance
We're together in this hot weather to dance
Oleander, I think you're better
I think you made it through another winter.
Nothing has ended
It's all been mended
It's the way that it should be
You're coming back
You're coming back
It was so lonely here just me
This time no promises of what's to come
We'll just live it for the day
Oleander I see you stand there and I know you'll be ok
Oleander I think you're better
I think you made it through another winter

White Oleander project ideas?
What are some good project ideas to offer a class reading the book White Oleander by Janet Fitch?
I am finding it a bit difficult to come up with any good ides :-(
You're thoughts are greatly appreciated!
White Oleander project ideas?
You could divide them into groups to look at the various aspects of the differences between the technology of writing and the technology of film. (This would, of course, necessitate them seeing the movie.)
Another idea: The main character goes through several different 'personality' phases. The students could come up with poems or songs or something that represent each different phase.
The students could create little suitcase art pieces (like the girl does at the end of the movie, if you need a visual) that represent A) the phases of the girl's life, B) the different people she lives with, C) anything else you find interesting.
I love this kind of stuff. :-)
Good luck!

Where or how can I buy "Oleander" in MI?
Hi, I live in Michigan state,
but I have no idea how I get Oleander in MI.
I heard Oleader grows around warm weather,
but MI is too cold to grow Oleader up......
So Im trying to find this Oleader in Micheal or Maiyer or some
plant shop.
Is it hard to buy or get Oleander in Michigan?
*One more question, is Oleander dangerous?
Where or how can I buy "Oleander" in MI?
Oleander will not grow in Michigan because of the cold climate. It will die in the cold winters.
Yes, it is dangerous. It's highly poisonous.
Reply:I have no idea how you would acquire Oleander in MI, but in regards to your last question, Oleander is highly toxic and consuming a small amount of it can be lethal(the toxin is oleandrin).

Oleander tree?
When is the best time of year to transplant an oleander from a pot to the ground? The tree is 3 yrs old, and has stopped growing, it still blooms, but has not grown in height at all. I think its too big for its pot.
I have a brown thumb, so all help is appreciated.
Oleander tree?
you can plant it right now. dig the hole twice as wide as the root ball, but no deeper. planting too deep can cause problems for the plant in the future. if the soil is hard or does not drain well, use gypsum in the bottom of the hole. gypsum helps to loosen compacted soils, and is available in garden centers. water in well as you back-fill to avoid air pockets around the root ball. with the extra soil, build a small retaining well about the same diameter as the hole you dug. as the soil on the surface becomes dry, fill the area with water and let it soak in. deep watering is best for establishing strong healthy plants. use a balanced fertilizer(15-15-15) as directed
Reply:Oleanders are as tough as old boots, so don't worry too much. I'd plant in spring in a sunny spot, and give it regular garden watering until it is established (don't overwater just keep the soil moist). Most plants respond well to a seaweed extract when newly planted, it stops transplant shock, and encourages root growth, but oleanders are not that fussy.
Oleanders can get frosted but take temperatures down to 20 deg F at my place. Just trim of the damage in spring. They respond well to quite hard pruning. Your plant may be a minature they only grow to approx 3 ft, and most regular plants in a garden situation never grow much above 12ft.
Reply:first off, its not a tree, its a large evergreen shrub that is used in landscape. and if you put it in the ground, i advise you to keep it as a hedge or a topiary..because they can get to be20-30ft tall
Reply:You should be able to plant it anytime of year. I would not suggest planting it in the fall though. You would want it to establish a root system before winter. And if you are in America, I probably wouldn't suggest planting it outside at all unless you are in Zone 8 or higher, since it is native to Morocco and Portugal and other places in that general area where temperatures usually don't reach freezing.

Oleander plants?
we have several oleander trees and started to notice that the leaves started turning brown and dying, it would then jump to the other trees and so on and so on. I thought it was some type of disease and trimmed them down ( way down) now some are coming back healthy but others are still brown, does anyone know what this can be and what I can treat them ? any suggestions would be appreciated
thank you
Oleander plants?
Its hard to say what your problem may be without having a little more detailed info, but I will try to give you my professional opinion and you can decide if it applies.
Providing your oleanders have not been subjected to any kind of cultural stress, such as pesticide phytotoxicity, salt burn (salinity) in the soil, severe drought, or freezing temperatures, a possible cause could be what is called "Oleander Leaf Scorch" (Xylella fastidiosa) which is a xylem infecting bacterium that is spread by certain leafhoppers (insects) while feeding, primarily the glassy-winged sharpshooter. The leaf margins or tips of the leaves including the edges appear scorched, turn yellow, then brown, and dry out. These symptoms can appear at anytime of the year but spread rapidly when the weather starts to warmup. The reason some of your plants appear to be more infected than others may be due to the fact that you have two or more different cultivars (varieties) or flower colors planted together. Some cultivars are less succeptible than others. Some plants will only live about 2 yrs once the disease is discovered and others may last for 3-5 yrs. There is no known cure for this disease once it gets established inside the plant! By pruning them heavily, you have temporarily supressed the visual symptoms. The new growth will appear healthy for a while, but will eventually go back to looking diseased and brown. The only thing you can do is to get on a scheduled spray program to control the leafhoppers and stop them from feeding on your plants. Also, the only way to detect this Xylella fastidiosa bacterium is to do an "ELISA" test, which must be done by an agricultural laboratory. Sorry to bring you this negative info, but I'm letting you know what you may be dealing with here. Good luck...

Water Requirements - Established plantings of oleanders are considered tolerant of ordinary drought conditions, with most plantings on Galveston Island receiving little or no supplement to natural rainfall. However, drought stress does have adverse effects, such as causing a reduction in growth rate and flower production. Supplemental watering at the rate of 1-2 inches per week, during dry weather conditions, promotes continuous flowering and constant growth of plants.
Fertilizer Requirements - As in the above case of water requirements, established plantings of oleanders generally do not require fertilization, but plants may respond favorably when fertilized by increasing growth rate and flower production. Signs of unfavorable soil nutrient levels for oleanders include light green, often small leaves, short internodes, lack of terminal growth of stems and sparse flowering. A general recommendation can be used where two pounds each of actual nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium are applied for 1000 square feet area occupied by roots of the plants. The first application made in early spring followed by a second application made in early fall. Oleanders growing in lawns that are properly fertilized generally will not require supplemental fertilization."

Oleander Help?
Last year I bought an Oleander, and in the fall I cut a shoot off so I could have a 2nd tree. It is growing quite tall, however the main trunk is not thick enough to support the height without the dowel I have tied to it. How do I get the trunk to thicken and support the tree?
Oleander Help?
Ah, now this is a progressive question, is it? LOL
The terminal bud is the growy bit at the top - you want to cut the main stem higher than some of the side branches - once you remove the top, those side shoots will become active and start forming side branches. Also give it more sun, that is one reason it is concentrating on height - it thinks there is no reason to make side branches because it has not gotten above the surrounding greenery to the sun yet. Time and fertilizer will thicken the stem - time, fertilzer and more light!!!
Reply:Remove the terminal bud, give it more light and fertilizer.

Oleander with burnt looking leaves?
my oleander is having some problems. one, i know it isn't getting enough sun, two, it got a bit frost bit on the lower branches (had it bagged on top) and now it looks like its, well, dying. I want to save it as it is one of my fav.s. So it's leaves were a deep green and shiny or waxy looking and now they are very dull, browning, some in spots some the whole leaves and they have black withered things coming from where flowers would otherwise be budding. THe leaves actually curl and look like they have been scorched.
WHat could be causing this
what should i do?
Thank you so much for any helpful suggestions. I hope it's cureable!
Oleander with burnt looking leaves?
probably suffered frost damage on the lower trunk and at ground level.I would cut it back to almost nothing and see if it repairs itself. Right now too much nutrients are going to the top and the leaves.
Reply:You may just have to wait. I had a tender plant freeze one time, but I was told not to cut off the dead stuff right away. I waited, and in spring I did cut back the dead stuff after I detected new growth starting to show. It came back slowly and now it's fine. Also, my neighbor had oleander that was getting really brown. He discovered gophers were eating the roots and killing it from beneath the ground. Also, once he watered the other one more, it looked better. People say to water well before frost is expected, because cold tends to dry out plants. The black bud ends %26amp; curled leaves sound more like a fungus or parasite. (Or perhaps the plastic bag trapped in moisture and they mildewed). Pick off some sample leaves and take it to a good nursery or to the county extension office for advice. I hope that this may help you.
Reply:it could be botryosphaeria dieback, caused by the fungus botryospaeria species causes branches and shoots to die%26amp;turn blackish brown.
the disease is more likely to occur when plants have been subjected to drought stress or damaged bt severe freezes.
prune out all affected branches, making sure that no discolored tissue is left in the cross section.
Reply:I have the same problem with my oleander. I think once when spring gets here it will be OK just wait until the first growth of spring appears and trim off dead leaves and branches. (mine got a little to cold this winter)

Will the Oleander grow after the bottom branches were trimmed??
My mother-in-law has two beautiful oleanders in the yard. The guy who mows her lawn also cleans up around the yard, He thought the oleander was a tree and he was going to train it to grow up so he cut off the bottom branches. AHHHHHHHH!!! Will they grow out again or not? She is so sad!!!
Will the Oleander grow after the bottom branches were trimmed??
They will grow very well any way.My Grandmaw never allowed any thick growth at the bottom of hers. She claimed they only harbored snakes and mice.he done her a favor, don't worry they will be fine...

Planting Oleander?
I want an oleander hedge. I bought some "Hardy Red Oleander" from LOWE's which is supposed to be fast growing. It says to plant 6'-10' feet apart. I want to be certain to have a solid wall so I'm planting them 6' apart. Do I measure that distance between the bases of the plants or somewhere else?

White Oleander by Janet Fitch?
I just read White Oleander (yes, like the movie) and it was amazing. I can't even put it into words. There are just a few things I didn't quite understand....
What exactly is "oleander time"? Astrid mentions that like five times throughout the book, and I never got what it means. Is it referring to the time of the year when her mother poisoned Barry? Or the time when it's in season or something?
Also, I wondered about the choices she made. Why did she choose to go to that last foster home, the one with Yvonne and Rena and Niki? Why did she choose to live her life like that? And at the end with Paul Trout (who I adore). Why didn't she take the money that her mother could give her and live back in the states? She could have taken Paul with her, and they'd be living more comfortably.
Thanks in advance for the help anyone can give me.
White Oleander by Janet Fitch?
I too loved this book. Oleander time is both the season in which Oleander thrives and a symbol as the time when Astrid's life was changed forever. (When Ingrid kills Barry). Also, I think she chose to go to the home with Rena because she doesn't think she deserves happiness, she wants to sabotage hereself. Also, she is so devestated by the death of Claire she doesn't want to become part of the "nuclear family" (a perfect family) because she thinks she will forget about Claire and the pain she went through too easily.
Lastly, she doesn't take the money, and she doesn't move back into the states because she knows that too much has happened and she would never fit into the daughter mold her mother wants from her. She also realizes that if she returns to California, she must abandon Paul, leaving him much like she has been abandoned so many times before. She embraces the life she has lived, the past that has made her who she is and accepts her mother's love, but continues to live the life she leads.
Hope this gave you the answers you needed, this was such a great novel, by the way Janet Firch wrote another novel (although, i didn't like it NEAR as much) It's called Paint It Black, maybe you should try it.
Reply:I read this book a really long time ago, so i don't remember much of the details. However, I think she didn't take her mother's money because she wanted her to know that she didn't need her anymore. Thats the only question i can answer
Reply:I wish i could help you, i read that book years ago and dont remember much but i know i really enjoyed that book. I wonder if i still have that book.

I just got Oleander seeds from E-Bay.
There were 3~4 seeds in one seed pod,
is this really dangerous even I just touch this seed?
What about if I eat this seed?
What is this Oleander seed's lethal dose?
I dont want let my children handle these seeds if this is
deadly dangerous.
About Oleander Seed..?
Never eat any part of the Oleander plant.

Are Oleander Seeds poisonous?
I just ordered 50 Oleander Seeds in EBay.
I heard Oleanders are usually dangerous...
But I wanna make sure seeds are OK or
not OK.
Are Oleander Seeds poisonous?
YES! Every part of oleander is toxic. Even the smoke from burning oleander is toxic- over the years I've heard of several "barbeques gone wrong" stories, where everybody ended up in the hospital for inhaling oleander smoke.
However: It's a beautiful bush, and very robust, so don't let the toxicity scare you. If you are going to do yardwork, wear gloves. Always always wash your hands after dealing with it. And if you have pets or children, make sure they stay away from it, or at least know that oleander is a poisonous plant.

Can oleander make my dog sick?
My dog is almost a year old and I found him chewing a piece of oleander stick after I trimmed our bushes. Ever since then he hasn't eaten and he keeps throwing up. It has been four days now and we are taking him to the vet tomorrow morning. I was just wondering if the oleander made him sick because I can't find anything else that could have made him sick like chemicals or poison.
Can oleander make my dog sick?
It is very poisonous to humans and animals. It was used in Africa to poison darts. Should have taken right to a vet.
Reply:DUH!!!it IS poisonous.
Reply:Yes, Oleanders and very poisonous.
Reply:Yes, it is toxic to dogs. Extremely, actually, i wouldnt wait to take him to the vet, get help now. did you tell yout vet what he ate? Cause they should be treating this like the emergency it is. He could die.
Reply:oleanders are deadly to humans.
Reply:Oleander is apparently very bad for dogs. I hope he recovers soon.

Oleander in zone 7?
I bought some Oleander about two years ago and the first year it did great. The second year it didnt even come out of the ground and this the third year it is about 3 feet tall with only 2 shoots showing. No blooms as of yet but the Live Nursery Specialist at my local Lowes says it should bloom by the end of the summer. Does anyone have any Oleander blooming in zone 7 yet that has not been planted this season?
Oleander in zone 7?
Oleander is not intended to survive winters in Zone 7 (temperatures below 10 degrees for several consecutive days). It's amazing that yours has lived this long! It is a Zone 8+ plant. I am in central Oklahoma, Zone 7.
You might try assuring your oleander is in a sheltered place (the south side of your home, near a wall) and mulch it heavily with leaves and bark. Another option is to bring it indoors in the winter and put it in a sunroom, but then they suffer from spider mites. (By the way, oleander--the entire plant--is considered poisonous.)
Read more about oleanders (including how to take cuttings and grow them!) at http://www.oleander.org/culture.html.
A pretty Zone 7 alternative to oleander is crape myrtle http://mountainmeadowseeds.com/seeds/Lag... It is a Zone 7 favorite.
Reply:Zone 7 is about as cold as it will go. Could be your plants were killed back hard 2 years ago and having to start all over again.
Another concern is oleander is undergoing a die out due to OLS, oleander leaf scorch, a bacteria spread by a sharpshooter....insect. No cure. It is devastating parts of the SW. I assume, you being zone 7, are not part of the blighted area.
Reply:It will bloom, but you should never ever plant oleander.
It always looks tacky and it is toxic.

Neighbor has oleander infested with caterpillars?
My neighbor, it seems, abandoned his house and has an oleander covered with caterpillars. I know these are oleander caterpillars and will attack the plant. They are beginning to come over to our house. Could these bugs attack my grass and plants? I know he has several oleanders in the back yard too.
Neighbor has oleander infested with caterpillars?
No, they won't attack your grass, but may take a liking to your shrubs. You don't want to go trespassing on someone else's property, even though there is no one living there now, someone still has ownership of the house. For you to go spraying insecticides on another property is "very" illegal and could get you a trespassing charge from the rightful owner or a fine, from the Dept. Of Pesticide Regulations. The only thing you need to be responsible for is your "own" property! You can spray your shrubs with a "systemic" insecticide that will be absorbed into your own shrubs and will kill any insect that happens to begin eating or sucking on its foliage. Ortho makes a product called "Ortho Systemic Insect Killer" which controls pests for up to 3 weeks after applying. You can usually find this at the garden sections of Walmart, Home Depot or the like. You can buy the concentrate or use a hose end sprayer supplied by Ortho, which makes the application very easy to do. You can apply this about once a month for control. Hope this answers your question.

Reply:Your welcome. Yes, this about all you can do legally at this time. Just treat your own yard and you will have no problems. Report It
Reply:Most caterpillars are species specific, that is they only eat one type of plant...and maybe it's cousins. If you have oleander, yes, they could come eat your plants, but as far as grass and other plants, probably not.
There is a very effective biological chemical you can spray that only affects caterpillars, not bugs, birds, or other plants/animals. It's called Bacillus thuringensis, or Bt for short. It paralyzes the caterpillar's gut so it stops eating and dies. Death is not instant, it takes a day or two...or three. If you accidently spray yourself, no problem it is nontoxic to us. It however does degrade in sunlight, so should be sprayed in the late afternoon.
You can report the house to the weed and litter department in your city and they can force the homeowner to care for the front yard, at least...and maybe the backyard.
Reply:The way I got rid of them is I burned them out. I did end up burning %26amp; killing the plant, but it was better than doing nothing. However, this is an abandoned house, so it will be hard to keep it under control if no one is looking after it.
Reply:spray the plants yourself with 1/2 dawn dish detergent and 1/2 Listerine and mix in a spray bottle and spray your plants and that of your neighbors . They will do away and they will stay away . If the house is abandoned then no one is going to take care of this . good luck .Oh and billy ray for someone who is a master gardener you should know that what I was using was all natural and would not harm anyone in anyway . and is not a pestiside .

Yellow Oleander? Small to medium street tree, tropical looking with brilliant yellow flowers.?
Saw this beautiful tree at the County Fair. The sign near the trunk said it was a "Yellow Oleander". But when I asked at two different nurserys I was told I was nuts. They said oleander is not a tree %26amp; comes only in red, pink %26amp; white. Never in yellow. I know what the shrub oleander is. This was completely different. Beautiful. I know I read the sign correctly. Anyone want to help prove I am not nuts? Thanks.

So they think you're crazy? Crazy like a fox! You got a real eye for beauty. THEVETIA peruviana is one niffty small scale lawn tree. Called the Yellow Oleander, or lucky nut (never could track down where that name came from) is a beautiful, airy tree that grows very slowly to about 20 ft. high and just about as wide. keepit out of the wind and make sure it has good drainage and it will take care of it's self. once established it needs very little water ti look it's best. I talked my county engeneer into including them when relandscaping some county librarys back in the early 1990's. they look as good today as when they went in. i can't say the same for the other choices they made? for some unknown reason most landscape desidners always have to put Agapanthus in ever thing they design. You get one month of cool blooms %26amp; the rest of the year they look like crap. They put some in as a border around the library Yellow Oleander trees. wow, talk about a clash of color! big blue blooms %26amp; bright yellow flowers. Sure did draw attention to the new county buildings. Well, the Agapanthus are long gone, but the trees still look great. If your nursery won't get you one, find a nursery that will. remember, you are the customer %26amp; the customer is always right. just do me a favor, don't plant Agapanthus and do yourself a favor and don't put in a Jacaranda, Re: MESS-o-randa.
Reply:Wow, it is sad that nursery employees couldn't think up the name to help you. I am familiar with this plant. Thevetia thevetiodes or Thevetia peruviana are the two I know. They are a considered a large shrub but can be treated as a small tree.
See the links below.
Reply:Yellow oleander (Thevetia peruviana a.k.a. Thevetia neriifolia) is fast growing medium-to-large shrub that can be trained as a small single or multi-trunked tree. The plant is native to tropical America and thrives in heat but is sensitive to frost (USDA Zones 9b-11). Thevetia is used as a street tree in some parts of southern California and Florida. As a shrub, it can reach 8-10' tall and wide. When trained as a tree, it may grow 20-30' tall with an equal spread. Staking is recommended when young since the trunks tend to be quite flexible. Flowers are 2-3 inches long and range from yellow to apricot. Provide well-drained soil. Site out of strong winds (they tend to contort the tree in unattractive ways). If it does get frozen, it will regenerate from the roots and bloom the same year.
Reply:I've never heard of yellow oleander but I have seen oleander trimmed so that it grows tall to about the size of a small tree 10 or 15 feet.
MeOw!
Reply:No you are not nuts .
Another name for this "tree" is a lucky nut tree.
I say "tree" because it really isnt one. You can train the bush to grow like a tree. And i dont know why they call it lucky either. Very poisonous to animals,it produces a poison called glycuside which causes cardiac arrest in animals not sure what it does to humans. Hope this helps.
Reply:Yellow oleander, also known as "lucky nut," also known as "false oleander."
Like true oleander, it's deadly poisonous, but, has very pretty flowers.
If you want to order one, I suggest ordering it through its species name, "Thevetia peruviana."
That way, the nursery has no excuse for screwing up with your order.
