Reply:Anita Shreve write some good books. Gives you a great sense of the lives of the character's.
Some that are kind of period pieces:
Fortune's Rocks
Sea Glass
More modern:
The Pilot's Wife
Reply:I just finish reading Chuck Palahniuk's Diary: A Novel. It is really interesting.......kinda morbid but I love the raw emotions of the characters.

Reply:You've made some interesting and excellent choices in your reading material! I think I can recommend some books for you.
I've been a big fan of Sonya Hartnett's books for some time. She's generally described as a YA (young adults) author but I think her books can be read and enjoyed by adults as well. I like how her books are not like a lot of typical YA fiction; that is, they don't always have happy endings. They're very realistic books, entertaining and they also make you think about her characters long after you've finished her books. Some of her titles that I've read:
Sleeping Dogs
Surrender
Thursday's Child
What the Birds See
Wilful Blue
All of the ones above are very good but my fave is Sleeping Dogs. It's about a family (mother, father, five children) who live on a farm and who also run a caravan (trailer) park. An artist who comes to stay at their park finds them interesting and mysterious. He sets out to discover their secret and does so to a devastating conclusion. I highly recommend this book.
Good luck and happy reading! :-)
Reply:Also loved What the Dead Know by Laura Lippman. If you liked Catcher in the Rye you'll prob. like Black Swan Green by David Mitchell. One year in the life of a British teenager..very good, funny, charming. Just read. He's the author of Cloud Atlas which is also supposed to be good.
Reply:The Traveler by John Twelve Hawks
Reply:Siri L. Mitchell is one of my favorite authors, she's written some great stuff!!
